No-Code and No-Hardware: Building a SharePoint 2013 Public Website
Join us to see a real-world case study of a SharePoint 2013 public website built for Christie Medical, all created without any custom code.
Christie Medical Holdings, Inc. is a division of Christie Digital Systems focused on the exploration of light technologies in the medical arena. Currently their web presence is a sub-site on the main Christie Digital website built on SharePoint 2007. As a very different business than Christie Digital, Christie Medical was looking for their own unique identity and site. Using SharePoint 2013's new web content management features, we are about to launch the new Christie Medical site. Some of the key SharePoint elements we employed are:
- Design Manager implementation of branding and page layouts
- Integration of the Twitter Bootstrap open source CSS framework to provide a fully responsive design that optimizes itself for desktops, tablets, and mobile devices
- Leveraging the new content search web part and display templates to dynamically roll up content, including Vimeo hosted videos and photo galleries
- The new 2013 search experience with refiners and live previews of results
- All of this was built without using Visual Studio or SharePoint Designer
In order to launch the site, a new SharePoint 2013 environment was needed. Rather than building out a physical infrastructure, the site is being hosted in the Microsoft cloud in Windows Azure. See how an entire SharePoint farm can be built in the cloud, securely connected to your on-premises infrastructure. Servers can be added or removed, and scaled up or down as business needs change. Business seasonality or marketing event requirements can be easily accommodated on a sliding monthly cost basis without the need for any capital investments.
